Drain Smart Artist Application

What to Expect:
The City will power wash drains before art installation. Artists will be provided with a sealant to apply before and after the painting is done, mandatory steps. Metal primer (to be applied to the manhole cover before painting) and acrylic paints in red, blue, yellow, black, white, and brown will also be provided. Each also receives a $150 stipend at the end of the project.
Murals must be completed by June. A Meet the Artists Celebration on June 25 gives the public a chance to mingle with the artists, learn more about Drain Smart, and vote for their favorite mural. After a month of online voting, the top three win an additional $200, $300, and $500.
- Application Deadline: Friday, March 13
- Artist Notification: Friday, March 27
- Orientation Meeting: Sunday, April 5 OR Tuesday, April 7
- All art must be completed by Monday, June 1

Along with the information below, please provide a sketch (min. size 8 1/2 x 11 inches) of your design idea, a title of your concept, a brief concept description, and a short artist’s bio (imagine the text you’d want to be displayed with your art if it were hanging in a gallery). You may also supply portfolio work and/or a resume. Selected artists must also submit a personal photo for outreach materials and must RSVP to one of the Orientation Meetings (see Project Timeline below for dates).
